A Willing Spirit A Ghostly Romance edition by Cynthia Sterling Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Sterling's ghostly romance is a unique story line with a plot that is romantic and humorous. Sterling created a plot line that is two fold--quest and forbidden love. What is original about this tale is that her protagonist, Will Bright, is a ghost. He is the deceased husband of Tessa Bright. Will dies as a result of an unfortunate accident. Dying prematurely has left him with unfinished business and hence he cannot cross over to the after world. He sets out on a quest playing match maker for Tessa
Sterling creates an ensemble of supporting characters all of whom truly enhance her story telling. Chief among the supporting characters is Micah Fox, a half Indian . As with most quests, Fate intervenes causing a wrinkle in the plot line thereby increasing the tension. The antics of the characters as they interact with Will's ghost are amusing. Sterling's use of great dialog positively contributes to the humor of the circumstances and helps to endure the characters to the reader. Each character, primary and secondary, presents a credible image. Each is multifaceted with strengths and flaws. The chemistry generated through the scenes and dialog helps the reader feel as if they are personally acquainted with these characters.
I liked the way Sterling presents each character's backstory. As you learn about them you ca not help but connect with them. Readers will laugh with them and agonize with them as they deal with obstacles placed in their path. To learn about Will, Tessa and Micah, you will have to read this book which is riveting.
I enjoyed this book very much. While Micah and Tessa were being drawn to each other, all the while fighting their attraction, Will (Tessa's husband's ghost) kept trying to put road blocks up. Other town characters were interesting and well thought out. It all blended together to make a somewhat different and interesting story.
However, I debated between a three and a four star, because there were a couple of things I didn't care for. I was disappointed that the two sex scenes got so graphic. Kissing and foreplay are ok and can add to a story; but, when it comes to a blow by blow description, of a private and intimate act, it takes away from my enjoyment, as I start skipping pages.
It's hard to explain my second disappointment, without giving anything away. Surffice to say, it happens near the end and has to do, with the ghost. It just seems weird, that Tessa hadn't mentioned it, until then. When it was revealed, all I could think was, DUH!
I loved this story line, with the ghostly presence of the husband made it a different theme from just another love story. And the surprise at the ending, I'm not going to say so I don'tgive it away.
If you could come back as a ghost and help your loved one to move on in his or her life, would you? As I began reading this ghostly tale of intrigue and romance it fascinated me and I couldn't put it down. A WILLING SPIRIT A GHOSTLY ROMANCE started in Texas in 1855.
Will Bright was married to Tessa Bright, but suddenly he had left her behind with no one to comfort her or help her with her many chores that needed done. Tessa had broken her arm and it was in a heavy cast. So that left her pretty much helpless when it came to work that needed both hands to be done. With no physical way to help Tessa with the chores, Will thought he was seeing to her every need by just being there, but he wasn't getting things done that needed the attention, and he couldn't help her loneliness. Well, one day a stranger came walking by carrying a saddle. He was willing to work and help Tessa out in order to maybe make enough money to bye a horse. Once Will found out this stranger was an Indian, he didn't like him at all and wanted him to be on his merry way, but Tessa offered him a job. Could this lead to a romance or will it be the fuel to feed the fire that could cause more hurt for Tessa?
Tessa was trying to please her husband, but she also wanted to have a say in this for herself to see if she could run the ranch on her own. Was Will, in his own sweet way, trying too hard to help Tessa? Was he really thinking of Tessa's feelings? And through or because of Will's meddling, could this cause even bigger problems? I loved it! A great read.
This isn't the usual paranormal romance. Not at all! A young widow is trying to run her small ranch by herself (and with a broken arm) when she decides to hire a half-breed cowboy on a temporary basis. She is worried that hiring him will harm her relationship with the people of the neighboring town. His hiring also alarms her ghostly husband who is still hanging around trying to take care of her....whether she wants him to or not! This is a very well written story that highlights the bigotry that was rampant in the early western years. It is also a lesson in what greed and jealousy can lead to. The love that develops between the two main characters develops slowly and believably. However, the sexual activity may be too spicy for some. (I skipped a lot of it and it didn't lessen the enjoyment of the story.) The descriptions of the townspeople and the military personnel were very well done. I will be reading more of this author.
Some language and sexual situations may offend some readers.
